Obama’s New Ad:

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

“A Stronger Economy”

In the new ad, Barack Obama identifies the ideology that caused the current economic crisis and his proposal for a solution. “It’s time to get our economy back on track and put the middle-class back first again.”

Country First?

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Since John McCain “suspended” his campaign to go back to Washington D.C. to deal with the economic crisis…

It seems to be pretty silly that McCain who said he didn’t know much about the economy feels the legislation (which is nearly complete anyway).

From McCain’s remarks today:
I cannot carry on a campaign as though this dangerous situation had not occurred, or as though a solution were at hand, which it clearly is not… It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the Administration’s proposal to meet the crisis. I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time.

From the Associated Press:
Deal said to be near on big financial bailout plan — President Bush is bringing presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain into negotiations on a $700 billion rescue of Wall Street as Democrats and Republicans near agreement on a bailout plan with more protections for taxpayers and new help for distressed homeowners. Senior lawmakers and Bush administration officials have cleared away key obstacles to a deal on the unprecedented rescue, agreeing to include widely supported limits on pay packages for executives whose companies benefit.

It looks more like John McCain is trying to rescue his campaign rather than suspending it?

Obama Statement on Bush’s Speech

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

From the Obama Campaign:
“While Senator Obama believed that the Administration’s initial proposal was flawed and unacceptable to the American taxpayer, he was heartened tonight that the President seemed to be moving in the direction of the principles that Senator Obama outlined over the last week, including limits on CEO pay, independent oversight, and taxpayer protection. He was also encouraged that the President suggested strengthening an outdated regulatory structure that led to this crisis, something that Senator Obama specifically proposed last March.”

Obama’s “Destination” Ad

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Obama’s new ad ties John McCain to the corporations and insurance companies who use off-shore firms in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands and other countries as tax havens.

Christian Science Monitor has an interesting article on the issue of tax havens in the 2008 election.

Obama’s Ad on McCain’s Health-care Article

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

In a September article for Contingencies magazine, John McCain wrote: “Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.”
